L&B Composite Coach, 1st/3rd "5" (GR-400A)

This models feature the eye-catching Indian Red and White livery, along with some very fine lettering detail, which is a gold colour with red and black shading. The footsteps and door handles are also picked out in a brass colour. We think you will agree that these models are particularly attractive, and should therefore be very popular.
The two variants are available. One is a 1st and 3rd class composite coach, number 5. This had 6 compartments, the center two being for first class passengers. The second coach is the 1st and 3rd class brake coach, number 15, complete with guard's ducket.
On the prototype both of these coaches would have run in this condition until the grouping on 1923, when the Southern Railway took over the line.
The character of these typical narrow gauge prototypes have been beautifully captured in these models and we have received much praise for them, something we find especially satisfying knowing just how much effort and behind-the-scenes planning that has gone into this project. It is very exciting to be at the forefront of a whole new era for the hobby, and we are quite sure that there is more to come for the modeller of 4mm narrow gauge.

Based on official L&B drawings Peco's first model faithfully represents the 1st/3rd Composite Coach of this popular line in North Devon. The first version released is in green livery of the Southern Railway, representing coach No.6364, and although at first glance appears quite plain, closer inspection will reveal a wealth of subtle detail in the painting and printing. Other key features to take note include;
High detailed mouldings.
Interior detail and a removable roof for the easy fitting of passengers.
Same couplings as the wagons; compatible with most other makes and clip fitted in bogie-mounted
NEM pockets.
Spare couplings available ref GR-102.
Minimum recommended radius 9 inches (Setrack 1st radius).
The models are presented in a very smart display box, similar to that used for our 00-9 wagons, firmly fixed to a removable base within the box itself, to ensure safe transportation.

Based on Numbers 15 and 16 of the 60cm gauge Lynton and Barnstaple Railway in North Devon, which were built for the line in 1897 by Bristol carriage and wagon works. The Southern Railway took over the line in 1922 and applied its standard olive green livery to the coaches, as depicted on the model.
Although based on real prototypes, they will look at home on almost any OO9 layout.
Minimum radius is 9” and hook-and-loop couplers, which are compatible with other brands of the same type, are fitted in NEM pockets each end.
